The Irish Institute of Medical Herbalists (IIMH) has always striven to support their members in attaining the highest level of professional expertise. This is to ensure patient safety as well as enabling members to be at the forefront of current research within herbal medicine. It is with this in mind that we set out to develop training for Medical Herbalists here in Ireland.

To support this level of practice the IIMH introduced two parts to their training, an introductory undergraduate science based programme of Herbal Science and a post graduate Clinical programme.

Undergraduate course:
 B.Sc (Herbal science)

A BSc Herbal Science honours degree was developed in conjunction with Cork Institute of Technology to support research and production of herbal and natural products. The IIMH feels strongly that the use of herbal products/ herbal medicine should be underpinned by evidence of quality, safety and efficacy.

This course is accredited by the IIMH and can form part of the standard entry requirements for the post graduate Clinical course in Herbal Medicine.

In addition to Clinical studies, graduates of the Herbal Science degree have many possible career opportunities in the areas of natural products, functional foods, food development, and the bio-pharmaceutical sectors.
